“Although many writers had had periods of significant depression, mania, or hypomania, they were consistently appealing, entertaining, and interesting people. They had led interesting lives, and they enjoyed telling me about them as much as I enjoyed hearing about them. Mood disorders tend to be episodic, characterized by relatively brief periods of low or high mood lasting weeks to months, interspersed with long periods of normal mood (known as euthymia to us psychiatrists). All the writers were euthymic at the time that I interviewed them, and so they could look back on their periods of depression or mania with considerable detachment. They were also able to describe how abnormalities in mood state affected their creativity. Consistently, they indicated that they were unable to be creative when either depressed or manic.”

The relationship between creativity and mental illness – a fascinating study based on writers from the prestigious Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Kurt Vonnegut was among the subjects. (via explore-blog)

“We met at the wrong time. That’s what I keep telling myself anyway. Maybe one day years from now, we’ll meet in a coffee shop in a far away city somewhere and we could give it another shot.”

do you ever just crave someone’s presence? like you would literally be happy just sitting next to them. it could be completely silent and it would just be magical to be there with them.

Just wrapped up on “Julia”

It’s gonna be so awkward when that song comes out and she hears it. We literally haven’t spoken in years, and this may be the first interaction since then. I’ve prepared myself to experience one of two interactions. One being she loves the song and starts thinking about those days we spent together and falls madly in love with me OR hears the song, feels completely creeped out because she thinks i’ve been thinking about her all this time, which actually isn’t the case. Then i’d explain to her that i tried changing the name but no other name flowed the way Julia did and i had to release the song because it’s so good and she wouldn’t believe me. I don’t know which situation could be worse for me.

For the record, i really did try changing the name but nothing worked as well as her real name and this song was so strong I had to put it on the album. I know everyone has a Julia somewhere out there so hopefully people will connect with the song. There really are no hard feelings or emotions left there-at least on my end. ;)

Oh btw, the song sounds AMAZING.
